Students Start the Year Strong with Back-to-School Kickoff

On August 13, Family Promise of Berks County hosted our annual Back-to-School Kickoff at Berks Lodge #47, welcoming families from across the community for an afternoon of support, fun, and connection.

This event was designed to ease the financial burden many families face at the start of a new school year while giving children the tools and confidence they need to succeed. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and community partners, students received free backpacks filled with essential school supplies. To help children feel their best on the first day of school, barbers and stylists volunteered their time to provide free haircuts and hairstyling services.

The afternoon also featured face painting, snow cones, a DJ, and community resource booths, creating a festive, family-friendly atmosphere that celebrated the excitement of a new academic year.

“Our Back-to-School Kickoff is about more than supplies,” said Jill Skoutelas, Executive Director of Family Promise of Berks County. “It’s about bringing the community together, building excitement for the new school year, and making sure children have what they need to succeed.”

This event would not have been possible without the incredible support of our volunteers, community partners, and donors who gave their time, talents, and resources. Together, we are working to ensure every child has the opportunity to begin the school year prepared and confident.
